CHARLES PACHTER "SQUEEZEPLAY" SERIGRAPH, 1986
The 1980's was one of Charles Pachter's most prolific and experimental periods; his palette and subject varied and he created a large body of work that demonstrated his creativity and versatility as an artist.
"Squeezeplay" is a charming anomaly in his oeuvre. It wasn't created as part of a series, and while Pachter has painted numerous animals over the years, to our knowledge it is his only depiction of a bird.
However, the palette and playfulness of this work anticipates Pachter's body of work done in Miami Beach (1993-1999)
The bird pictured was actually the artist's pet budgie.
We love the palette and humour of this work...and are reminded a bird in the hand is worth two in the bush.
