HAROLD TOWN "DIVA" LITHOGRAPH, 1970

HAROLD TOWN "DIVA" LITHOGRAPH, 1970

Harold Town (1924–1990) was one of the most dynamic and brilliant figures in Canadian art throughout his career which extended from the early 1950s to the late 1980s.

While often associated with Painters Eleven, he was also a master printmaker. Throughout his lengthy career, he repeatedly returned to printmaking to create significant and memorable bodies of work.

Caviar20 is especially fond of the "Superstar" series of lithographs. We are excited to be offering a selection of cherished iconic examples including Yoko Ono, Charlie Chaplin, and Gracie Slick.

This work "Diva" is a fine example from this timeless and chic series and as is another reminder of how Town was an exceptional draftsman.

The character represents an elegant woman with a hat covering a part of her face. Her eyes stare deep into the viewer with sultry confidence. Do you think Town is referencing a specific heroine?
