HAROLD TOWN "MECHANICAL NATURE" SAP, 1953
Caviar20 is excited to be offering this exceptional "Single Autographic Print" from 1953. It is one of the earliest "SAPs" (Single Autographic Prints) we've handled and comes directly from the estate of Harold Town (1924-1990).
Harold Town began to explore printmaking because of his friend and fellow artist Oscar Cahen. This work is quite rare and unusual as it is black and white, with a total absence of color.
The "Single Autographic Prints" were first exhibited in 1954. Two years later the National Gallery of Canada would successfully nominate Town to represent the nation at the Venice Biennale.
By the end of the decade Town received international accolades for these works and had become one of the most admired artists in Canada.
This "Single Autographic Print" is an exceptional example of the work that established Harold Town's reputation.
An essential work for a collection of post-war Canadian abstraction.
