YORGO LIAPIS "JAGUAR CREDENZA" 2016
Yorgo Liapis is a Toronto-based artist and woodworker best known for his wide-ranging innovation and expertise across art and design.
Liapis’ exceptional level of craftsmanship is rare in this era of mass-produced furniture, creating sculptural works and design pieces with outstanding technical detail.
Liapis’ work takes inspiration from natural environments; referencing the beauty and function of intricate patterns found in ecosystems throughout the world.
Bold in design yet remarkably elegant in form, this Jaguar Credenza is a continuation of Liapis’ Wooden Jaguar series. A trip to Yasuní National Park, Ecuador, the most biodiverse place on earth, had a strong impact on Liapis' creativity and vision. While jaguars inhabit the park and play a vital role in the surrounding ecosystem, their sightings are notably rare, inspiring Liapis to explore their elusive presence through this body of work.
Caviar20 has long admired Yorgo Liapis’ work, first exhibiting him at Art Toronto in 2012. We are pleased to be showing this striking Jaguar Credenza as part of our Toronto20 exhibition.
